Our Environmental Concern

By applying the third generation ACV-OSV and our new HSC-OSV surface vessels in environmentally sensitive regions will gain significant environmental benefits.

A conventional displacement vessel designed to carry 10 - 200 tons at 40 knots would require propulsion by diesel or gas-turbine engines at extremely high power output.

Our fleet of ACV-OSV and HSC-OSV vessels (depending on what type of operation) achieve the same carrying capacity and speed by providing a fraction of the required power that for conventional vessels. The benefits can be summarized as following:

No, or limited, Submarine Impact.

Transference of propeller noise from our ACV-OSV vessels to marine life does not occur and does not have a negative impact on the submarine life at all. And due to the extremely limited hull resistance and shallow draft on our HSC-OSV vessels, the negative impact on flora, fauna, seabed sediments and fish spawn are limited. For our ACV-OSV vessels this impact is zero because of total absence of any underwater turbulence or stern gear.

No Discharge.

There is no discharge of diesel fuel, lubrication oil, gasoline or hot exhaust gases into the water by either the ACV-OSV or the HSC-OSV vessels.

The MMS (Multi Mission System) design platform of our HSC-OSV enable LNG as an alternative to gasoil (diesel) fuel. We encourage our clients to implement an appropriate fuel infrastructure, LNG storage and distribution.

No, or limited, Wash.

Our light displacement vessels generates almost zero wash above hump-speed. Beach-, jetty- and harbor construction erosion is avoided or limited. The erosion is a major problem caused by conventional medium and heavy displacement vessels in the most sensitive regions.

Reduction of Noise.

Due to the past ten years development of propeller ducts with close propeller tip clearance our ACV-OSV fleet is not noisier than equivalent multi engine conventional high speed vessels. Our HSC-OSV vessels posses very low emissions due to the newest generation power plants and propulsion. Independent noise tests has been carried out both in England, Sweden, Alaska and Brazil recording acceptable low levels.

No, or limited Toxic Antifouling.

Our ACV-OSV fleet does not call for any toxic antifouling paint to keep bottom clean from vegetation. Toxic bottom paints has become serious problems in the most sensitive areas. Due to the limited wetted surface on our HSC-OSV fleet, a limited amount of anti fouling paint is needed which, reduce any toxic impact on the submarine life.

Waste Disposal and Handling.

Navifast and its subsidiaries have applied a very strict agenda for the discharge of all waste related to the maintenance and the operation of the vessels. This goes for all on-shore and offshore activities. All proceedings are stipulated in our QHSE and Code of Business. We apply a zero-discharge policy.
